As we are all at home during the quarantine of our lifetime, I along with many of us have turned to TikTok at least three times a day. As a mother you get fed all the latest trends from your children, this app being one of them.
To me what started as an ironic download to laugh at what today’s 16-year-olds were doing for clout quickly became an addiction and I know I’m not alone. I’ve got 10s of videos saved and I quote most of them in conversation at least once a day. Now I'm sharing with my kids the clips I find funny. It currently my 'obsession'.
So imagine my surprise when I post a music video and over 275,000 people viewed it! I couldn't buy marketing like this... my numbers on streams continue to grow and I have this app to thank for it. So in fact I've become a believer.
I’ve long since come to terms with the fact I now unironically enjoy TikTok. But constantly gathering my family around my phone in the kitchen to show them the treasure trove of post-Vine brilliance is no longer enough – I want to be a TikTok star myself. Now if I only had the time... you're supposed to post at least 3 times a day, and hit targets in your speech, but this why I think it was first made for kids.... they have that of time.
To be TikTok famous isn’t something most people have really figured out yet. Sure, there are corporations and celebrities who's elite creators pump out videos every day, and the rat race for true influencer status is still a bit of a free-for-all and I love that. But honestly who cares? I like the app for a variety of reasons; it's entertainment, there are DIY tutorials of everything, you can find new music artists (like me!) and learn and support social justice.
So how could you become TikTok famous? Well, if you went into this link thinking you might travel to the summit of TikTok fame by dancing in your room, think again. Like all of these applications, you have to really love what you do. All the best.
